The Society

A mixture of modern jive and rock'n'roll, Le Roc is a fast, fun and sexy type of dance that you can do anywhere: in clubs, at balls or elsewhere, to most kinds of upbeat music, be it 60s Swing or current chart music. The society is based around the weekly classes on a Thursday evening that run through the autumn and spring terms. Many of the moves are easy to learn so that, within 5 or 6 weeks, you will find yourself impressing your friends and yourself.

The society is equally split between guys and girls and getting involved is a great way to make new friends. No previous knowledge or experience of dancing is required for any lesson or event. There is no need to come with a partner as there will always be lots of people willing to dance.

President - Francesca Santilli

Email her: fs8489@bristol.ac.uk

Francesca is a first year chemist at Bristol University.  She has been dancing for about 7 years now in a variety of styles and decided to try out le-roc when she joined the university.  She has found it both great fun and a good form of exercise, and took part in the 2009 dance show which was a great way to improve her dancing and get to know the other dancers better.  She is very committed to le-roc and will always be willing to dance or help anyone out in the lessons - so don't hesitate to approach her!

Steve is in the second year of his PhD in Physics and Physiology.

After finally plucking up the courage to start Le Roc in his final year of his undergraduate and quickly deciding he loved it, he continued to improve his skills (which, as shown in the picture, includes being able to walk...) in the first year of his postgrad before opting to become involved in the committee in his second year.

Rose is a second year Biology student a Bristol University, and has been dancing with LeRoc for two terms and really enjoys it! She is keen and enthusiastic about LeRoc and took part in the 2009 dance show. She is approachable so feel free to ask her about anything, or if you just want a dance she is always up for one!

Social Secretary- Jemma Milburn

Jemma is a second year student on the Cellular and Molecular Medicine program.

She is the kind of girl who will Le Roc to even the heavy gut churning sounds of Arch Enemy.

Jive Le Roc is a great way to meet new people, do some regular light exercise and just enjoy a good dance! Jemma likes to encourage members of the society and beginners alike to get involved in social events and enjoy themselves in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
